A day 20 years in the making….

We had enormous pleasure in finally being able to talk about our new handheld device, for breast tissue composition measurement, today. For the past 20 years Micrima has developing a wholly novel new medical diagnostic technology that use radio waves. It’s taken a long time because the challenges have been significant. The important thing is that we have continued to learn and adapt.

Just over two years ago we took time to review where we were, both with the technology and product and brought together all of the experience in the team, as well as our supporters, to review our direction. It was one of the hardest decisions that I’ve personally had to make to take a new plan to the board and investors. BUT, it’s the right plan and one that sees us take all those years of development and package it in to a product that doesn't try to compete with existing imaging technologies, but compliments them by providing something that just doesn’t exist today. What’s more the portable and non ionising nature (of Mi~Scan®) means that it can be used both in a hospital and community setting.

The initial product creates a quick and accurate measure of breast density. This can be used ahead of diagnostic imaging to ensure the right protocol is used to maximise the chance of seeing cancer, within that breast. As it doesn’t involve ionising radiation it can also be operated by a non-specialist member of the team, after just 30 minutes training. This means that each patient should only require one set of imaging, reducing the workload on an already stretched Radiographically trained workforce and allowing them to focus their time on their patients, potentially opening up screening services to a wider pool of women.

A great day for team Micrima and I’d like to thank them all for their hard work, in getting here and to our amazing investors, who this simply wouldn’t have been possible without their support.
