A day 20 years in the making….

We had enormous pleasure in finally being able to talk about our new handheld device for breast tissue composition measurement. For the past 20 years, Micrima has been developing a novel medical diagnostic technology that uses radio waves. It’s taken a long time because the challenges have been significant, but most importantly we have continued to learn and adapt.

Just over two years ago we took time to review where we were, both with the technology and the product. It was one of the hardest decisions that I’ve personally had to make, to take a new plan to the board and investors. Utilising years of development, our new product complements rather than competes with existing imaging modalities. The device is smaller and portable, meaning it can be used in both hospital and community settings.

The initial product produces a quick and accurate BI-RADS 4th edition measure of breast density. This can be used ahead of diagnostic imaging to ensure the right protocol is used to maximise the chance of seeing cancer within the breast. The device does not use ionising radiation, therefore can be operated by a non-specialist member of the team after just 30 minutes of training. This has to potential to transform and personalise screening programs, making them more efficient and effective.

A great day for team Micrima and I’d like to thank them all for their hard work in getting here. I’d also like to thank our amazing investors, this simply wouldn’t have been possible without their support.
