To reduce the number of women who die of breast cancer by developing a system that can aid earlier detection.

About Us

The whole team at Micrima come to work every day because we believe there has to be a better way to detect this disease earlier and prevent some of these deaths. Our mission is to continue to work with clinicians and technical experts, in house and external, to develop a breast imaging system that is comfortable for the patient, easy to interpret and can be used frequently and from a much younger age in order to detect breast cancer.

Nick has a technical background with an MBA. He has held multiple positions in Medtech companies in the US and Europe from product management to Executive Chairman. These have included leading a spin-out developing superconducting magnets for MRI and early-stage radio-frequency to significantly improve the performance of mobile base stations.

For the last ten years Nick has been a proactive angel investor, focusing on helping early-stage technology business in Cybersecurity, Medtech, Labtech and SaaS software. He has had multiple successful exits. He joined the Micrima Board following his initial early-stage investment six years ago.

John joined Micrima in 2018 as Product Development Director. He is now responsible for technology development, product development, manufacturing functions, quality and regulatory affairs.

John brings over 20 years’ medical device industry experience in a range of senior management roles in new product development, manufacturing, quality and regulatory affairs. John joined the Board on the 1st June 2020 as Chief Operating Officer.

Elizabeth joined Micrima in 2016 as Marketing Manager. She now has overall responsibility for the company’s sales, marketing and clinical functions.

Elizabeth has over 20 years’ sales and marketing experience in the medical devices industry and has served in worldwide management positions for a variety of global medical device companies.  In these roles, she has been responsible for brand management of established products as well as bringing to market new products. Elizabeth joined the board on the 1st June 2020 as Commercial Director.

Professor Alan Preece

Nick Simmonds

Alan is currently Emeritus Professor of Medical Physics in the Medical faculty of the University of Bristol, where he was head of the academic Medical Physics department and a consultant grade Clinical Scientist at the University Hospital Bristol Oncology department.

Alan is also on the Clinical Scientist register (HCPC) and continues to carry out editorial work for journals and conferences, and has over 160 publications with a long history of worldwide invited lectures and provision of expert opinion on electromagnetic field safety.

Nick is a Partner with Technology Venture Partners LLP – a venture capital fund management company based at the Innovation Centre at Bristol & Bath Science Park. TVP manages a portfolio of investments in technology companies across a range of sectors including med-tech, software and instrumentation.

Prior to TVP Nick held the role of Investment Director with YFM Equity Partners. Nick has experience in management consulting to the healthcare industry with IMS Health.

Professor Ian Craddock

See above Roy has over 35 years’ experience in the medical device and diagnostics sector, operating at board level in both the UK and the USA.

Roy is particularly conversant with bringing complex technology to market, developing worldwide distribution networks, and negotiating and managing strategic relationships with some of the industry’s leading players.

Following a career in large USA corporates, he has founded 4 medical technology companies and has advised the government in the Life Sciences Sector.

Currently a Professor at the University of Bristol, and scientific project leader heading the University’s radar imaging group.

He has published almost 100 papers on topics including electromagnetics, antennas and imaging. He was personally awarded the 2005 IEE J. A. Lodge prize for outstanding work in Medical Electronics. He regularly delivers invited papers at the leading European, Asian and North American conferences in his subject area.

Ian chairs and convenes sessions on radar and imaging at international conferences, is a Member of Advisory Panel to an IET Personal Network on Antennas & Propagation and a Member of the Editorial Board for IET Proceedings on microwaves, antennas and propagation.
